C-17 Miramar Sunset

Undersea Rescue Command (URC), based in San Diego, prepares to depart to support the ongoing search and rescue efforts for the Argentine submarine A.R.A. San Juan in the South Atlantic Ocean, Nov. 18. URC is deploying two rescue assets, the Submarine Rescue Chamber and the PRM. URC Sailors are highly trained and routinely exercise employing the advanced technology in submarine search scenarios. U.S. Air Force C-17 “Globemaster IIIs” and C-5 “Galaxies” from Travis Air Force Base, Calif. and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, are transporting the equipment from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar to Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina.

CH-47 Reassembly After Shipment


​Maintenance crews reassemble the six CH-47 Chinook helicopters brought to Puerto Rico via a C-5 Galaxy, reinstalling the aft pylon to which the helicopter’s blades will later be attached, October 13, 2017. The maintenance Soldiers’ skillset and teamwork ensure the safety of our pilots and crews and the readiness for the accomplishment of our mission to deliver supplies to the residents of Puerto Rico, once completed.

CNN affiliates report from the flight deck of the hospital ship USNS Comfort as an MH-60S Sea Hawk, attached to the “Sea Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 22 brings patients onboard from a local Puerto Rican hospital. Comfort is operating in the vicinity of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to provide medical services with additional visits being planned around the island. The U.S. Health and Human Services and Puerto Rico Department of Health representatives are prioritizing patients at each stop prior to Comfort’s arrival. The Department of Defense is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
